We call this ‘Amish Holiday Hero’ because it never fails to be the star of our table!

Instructions

1. Prepare the  Ham:
Place the  ham flat-side down into the insert of a 6-quart or larger  slow cooker.

2. Make the Glaze:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, water, ground mustard, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger until a smooth syrup forms.

3. Cook Low and Slow:
Pour the glaze mixture evenly over the ham, letting it run down the sides into the bottom of the slow cooker.
Cover and cook on Low for 6-8 hours, or until the ham is thoroughly heated and fall-apart tender. Basting the ham with the juices once or twice during cooking is recommended, but not required.

4. Rest and Serve:
Once cooked, carefully transfer the ham to a cutting board or serving platter and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
Serve with the rich cooking juices from the slow cooker drizzled over the top.

Chef’s Notes & Variations

  • For a Sweeter Glaze: Add ¼ cup of honey or pure maple syrup to the glaze mixture.

  • For a Spicy Kick: A pinch of cayenne pepper or a teaspoon of red pepper flakes adds a wonderful warmth.

  • Citrus Twist: Substitute the apple cider vinegar with an equal amount of fresh orange juice and add a tablespoon of orange zest to the glaze for a bright, sunny flavor.

  • Faster Cooking: Short on time? You can cook the ham on High for 3-4 hours. Be sure to check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer—it should reach 140°F (60°C).

  • Pro-Tip: For a beautifully caramelized exterior, you can place the glazed ham under the broiler for 2-3 minutes after slow cooking. Watch it closely to prevent burning
