Layer chocolate sandwich cookies in the crock

Directions

  1. Prep the Slow Cooker: Lightly grease the bottom and sides of a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick spray or a thin layer of butter. This helps prevent sticking and makes cleanup easier.

  2. First Cookie Layer: Arrange a single, even layer of chocolate sandwich cookies on the bottom of the slow cooker, placing them close together so most of the surface is covered. A little overlap is fine, and you can break a few cookies to fill in any larger gaps.

  3. Make the Cream Mixture: In a medium bowl, gently fold the sweetened condensed milk into the thawed whipped topping. Stir just until combined and mostly smooth—you want to keep some of that light, airy texture from the whipped topping.

  4. First Cream Layer: Pour about half of the cream mixture evenly over the layer of cookies. Use a spatula to spread it gently to the edges, covering the cookies as much as possible.

  5. Second Cookie Layer: Add another single layer of chocolate sandwich cookies on top of the cream. Again, fill in gaps with broken pieces as needed.

  6. Second Cream Layer: Pour the remaining cream mixture over the second cookie layer, spreading it gently to cover. The cookies don’t need to be fully submerged—they’ll soften as they cook.

  7. Cook: Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 2 to 2½ hours. The dessert is ready when the edges are set and the center is hot and bubbly. The cookies will have softened, and the mixture will have thickened into a scoopable, cake-like texture.

  8. Rest: Turn off the slow cooker and let the dessert sit, covered, for 10 to 15 minutes. This short rest allows it to set slightly, making it easier to scoop without falling apart.

  9. Serve: Scoop the warm cookies and cream cake into bowls and serve immediately. Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds before serving.

Variations & Tips

  • Go Richer: For extra chocolate intensity, use chocolate-filled sandwich cookies or sprinkle a small handful of chocolate chips between the cookie layers.

  • Less Sweet Option: Swap half the sweetened condensed milk for regular milk or half-and-half, and use reduced-fat or thin-style chocolate sandwich cookies.

  • Make It a Party: Keep the slow cooker on WARM and set out toppings like mini marshmallows, chopped nuts, chocolate syrup, and sprinkles so everyone can customize their own bowl.

  • Lighter Twist: Use light whipped topping and reduced-fat sweetened condensed milk if available.

  • Watch Your Cooker: Slow cookers vary. If yours runs hot, start checking at 1 hour 45 minutes to prevent the edges from overcooking.

  • Easy Cleanup: For even easier removal and cleanup, line the bottom of the slow cooker with a parchment paper circle before adding the first cookie layer.

  • Grandkids’ Favorite: Let the little ones sprinkle colorful sprinkles or crushed cookies over the top of their own bowls—it turns dessert into an activity.

This is the kind of dessert that proves you don’t need fancy ingredients or complicated techniques to create something everyone loves. Just a slow cooker, a few staples, and the wisdom to know that sometimes the simplest things are the ones worth passing down.
