Ring-a-ling Sweet Rolls

These delightful orange-scented sweet rolls are filled with a spiced almond paste and topped with a simple citrus glaze. The process of twisting and swirling the dough makes them as fun to make as they are to eat!

Yields: 20-22 rolls
Prep time: 30 minutes + 1.5 hours rising
Cook time: 12-15 minutes

For the Dough:

  • 4 to 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour, divided

  • ½ cup granulated sugar, divided

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp grated orange zest (from 1-2 oranges)

  • 2 packets (4 ½ tsp) active dry yeast

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter

  • 1 large egg, at room temperature

For the Almond Filling:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup ground almonds

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

For the Orange Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • ¼ cup fresh orange juice
