Mom’s Flat Apple Pie

A classic, family-sized apple pie baked on a cookie sheet. The cornflake layer ensures a crisp crust, and the vanilla glaze adds the perfect sweet finish.

Yields: One 15×10-inch pie
Prep Time: 45 minutes
Cook Time: 25-30 minutes

Ingredients
For the Crust:

3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

¾ teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups shortening

1 large egg yolk

Enough milk to make 1 cup of liquid total (after adding the yolk)

For the Filling:

2-3 handfuls (about 1 ½ cups) Corn Flakes cereal

8-10 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

4-8 tablespoons cold butter, cubed

For the Egg Wash:

1 large egg white

1 teaspoon granulated sugar

For the Vanilla Glaze:

⅔ cup powdered sugar

2-3 dashes vanilla extract

Milk, as needed (about 1-2 tablespoons)
